Mike Moustakas and Salvador Perez each homered in a five-run fourth inning to lead the Royals to their fifth straight win to open the season, a 6-4 win over the Angels on Saturday night. The win helps keep pace with Central Division favorite Detroit, who is also off to a 5-0 start. Both teams have opened up a three-game lead in the division over their rivals.
Moustakas’ homer leading off the fourth inning was the Royals’ first hit off Angels starter Jered Weaver, who was chased after 4 1/3 innings. Weaver allowed seven hits and six earned runs. Kendrys Morales had three hits for the Royals, including a double, and he drove in a run.
Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie gave up six hits and four runs. Wade Davis and Greg Holland finished off the win. It is Holland’s three save of the season.
Yordano Ventura, the Opening Day starter, takes the ball for the series finale and faces C.J Wilson.
