The Missouri Tiger football team held its first major scrimmage of the 2015 spring camp, and this morning on a sun-splashed Faurot Field, the Tiger defense held the upper hand, and claimed a 27-3 victory in the controlled and situational scrimmage.
The ball-hawking defense came up with seven interceptions on Saturday, including a pair by junior CB Aarion Penton. But it was sophomore DE Charles Harris who made the biggest splash, when he intercepted a pass on the six-yard line and trotted untouched into the end zone for a six-yard pick six against the #2 offense on just the second series of the day.
The offense certainly had its moments of success, as senior TB Russell Hansbrough ran for 107 yards on just eight carries. Included in that total was a nifty 65-yard burst through the left side that he took the distance for the only offensive score of the day.
Senior PK Andrew Baggett was 4-for-5 on field goals Saturday and also handled punting duties, as he averaged 38.8 yards on five kicks.
The Tigers will be off for two days before renewing spring camp with a practice Tuesday afternoon. They’ll go five more times between April 7-16, before wrapping up spring camp with the annual Black & Gold Game, set for Saturday, April 18th at 4 p.m. from Faurot Field/Memorial Stadium.
