After failing to recover properly after his 80-pitch session on Tuesday, Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia was examined by a team doctor on Sunday and it was determined that his arm is fatigued.   He was feeling soreness since Tuesday and even during a side session on Thursday. Garcia then told the Cardinals’ medical staff.

The club hasn’t determined how long his layoff will be neeed, but it will keep him off the Opening Day roster.

The 80 pitches Garcia threw  were the most since his season ended last June.  Last July, he underwent thoracic outlet surgery, the same surgery that Chris Carpenter had and never recovered.
