Sophie Cunningham scores on a layup in the fourth quarter

Rock Bridge captains Sophie Cunningham and Cierra Porter overcame a slow start in their Girls Class 5 semifinal game to pull away in the fourth quarter for a 52-41 win over Cor Jesu Academy.  The Bruins are gunning for their fourth straight championship on Saturday.

Cunningham finished with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists.  Porter ended with 15 points, and nine rebounds.  Cor Jesu slowed the tempo of the game down in the first half and held the Bruins to just four points in the second quarter.

The Chargers found themselves down four at the half despite shooting just 22%.  After only making 1 of 6 from three point range in the first two quarters, Cor Jesu was 4 of 6 from long range in the third quarter to trail 34-30.  Natalie Chrisco’s three pointer early in the 4th made it a two-point game, but Cunningham and Porter helped Rock Bridge go on an 8-0 run over a span of 4:30 to push ahead 43-32.  The lead grew to as much as 14.

Chrisco finished with 11 for Cor Jesu. Kristin Schmelter led the Chargers with 14.
