Adam Wainwright took another step closer to making a true spring training start.

Surrounded by a good crowd on one of the back fields at the Cardinals training complex, Adam Wainwright got the feel of a real game, after throwing 50 pitches in a simulated game.  With manager Mike Matheny watching from behind the plate, all the reports are that Wainwright looked strong and he may be ready to make his first spring start that could come in the next five or six days.

Wainwright threw 50 pitches, but didn’t field any balls. Wainwright ran a few sprints after the game and said “everything was good” with his abdomen.

Veteran John Lackey finally made his debut, after wanting to cut down on the number of springs starts he has to make. The veteran wants to save his arm for the grind of the regular season, but looked real close to game ready in the first of four spring training starts scheduled.  He went three perfect innings against the Tigers in a 1-0 win. Of the 37 pitches, Lackey threw 27 strikes.
