Jeriah Horne of Barstow gets ready to make a move to the basket in the third quarter

The Barstow Knights, out of Kansas City, jumped out to a 21-4 lead after the first quarter against the Strafford Indians and were never threatened the rest of the way, claiming the Class 3 boys title Saturday evening at Mizzou Arena by the final 61-46.

The Knights were led by their three leading scorers, Jeriah Horne (19), Shea Rush (17) and Jacob Gilyard (16).  The Knights started by shooting 50% in the first quarter including 4 of 7 from three point range.  The Indians had no answer for Barstow’s two big guys Horne (6’7) and Rush (6’6).  As the game wore on, 5’7 sophomore Gilyard heated up.

The Knights finished the game even better, shooting 55%.  Strafford shot 38% and outrebounded Barstow 29-26, and held their own in the turnover battle losing 15-14.

Grant Boswell led Strafford with 14, Brady Collier had 12 and Dallas Hester finished with 10.

Barstow caps their season with a 29-2 record.  Strafford closes out the season 29-4.

After falling short in last year’s finals, the Knights were ready and more relaxed this year.
