Multiple sources reporting that, as expected, Chiefs apply franchise tag to linebacker Justin Houston

March 2, 2015 By Bill Pollock

KCChiefsMultiple media outlets are reporting the Kansas City Chiefs have nabbed Justin Houston with the franchise tag.  The Chiefs and Houston have until July 15 to work out a new deal.  The question is whether or not the Chiefs have used the exclusive or non-exclusive tag.

The best way to describe that is to share Terez Paylor’s article from the Kansas City Star.  Houston will make a guarantee salary that is the average of the top five salaries at his position or in the neighborhood of $13 million if no other teams makes an offer.

Depending on the type of tag that is applied and how the Chiefs move forward, the team could also let Houston sign for another with the compensation being two, first-round draft picks.
