The St. Louis Rams have a new offensive coordinator to replace Brian Schottenheimer.  Head coach Jeff Fisher will promote quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti.  The announcement will officially be made at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon.  Cignetti will call plays after Schottenheimer left in January to become offensive coordinator at the University of Georgia.

Fisher will also announce the promotion of tight ends coach Rob Boras to assistant head coach/offense.  Boras will focus mainly on the run game and continue to coach tight ends.

Cignetti, 49, has been with the Rams for three seasons. Before that he was offensive coordinator at Rutgers, in 2011.

“He’s done a great job in some difficult circumstances and he brings a great body of work as a play caller at some significant college programs,” Rams coach Jeff Fisher said.

Cignetti has been with Rams quarterback Sam Bradford and that should help as Bradford will be with his fourth offensive coordinator in his career.  Under the eye of Cignetti, Bradford had career highs in passing yards, touchdown passes and quarterback rating in 2012, and Bradford was even better in 2013 before hurting his knee in week seven and missing the rest of the year. He re-injured the knee in the 2014 preseason and missed the entire season.
