A press release paid for by Asbury for Governor says a former representative will announce his intentions Thursday at the Moberly Area Community College Activity Center.

Randy Asbury served as a Republican in the state House in 2011 and 2012 representing the former 22nd District, which included Moberly. Asbury is a former Randolph County Commissioner and has for years been involved in issues regarding management of the Missouri River.

Calls to Asbury’s cell phone direct those calling about Thursday’s political announcement to refer to the press release.

If he announces his candidacy as a Republican in 2016, it would create a three-way primary race between himself, State Auditor Tom Schweich and former Missouri House Speaker and U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway for the Republican nomination.

The announcement will be made at noon, Thursday.

So far the only Democrat to announce a run for Governor is Attorney General Chris Koster.
