St. Louis Blues captain David Backes scored his 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th goals in at 17-minute span to turn a 1-0 game into a 6-1 rout over the Arizona Coyotes.  It was the second time in Backes’ career he scored four goals in a game. He also did it April 2, 2009, against the Detroit Red Wings.

The Blues continue their dominance in the desert, outscoring the home team 12-1 in two games in Glendale, AZ.

The Blues’ went 3 for 5 on the power play and lead the NHL in that category. Two of Backes’ goals came with the man advantage, while Jaden Schwartz scored the other.  Paul Stastny scored less than eight minutes into the game.

Rundown of Backes’ four:

Arizona’s Sam Gagner was called for a holding penalty at 5:52, and Backes scored 18 second later on a cross ice pass from T.J. Oshie, leaving Backes with an open left side of the net to shoot the puck at 6:15 of the second.

Kyle Chipchura took another holding penalty 15 seconds later, and after Arizona defenseman Zbynek Michalek turned over the puck, Backes scored on a breakaway beating Smith on a wrist shot at 7:21.

Backes got his hat trick at even strength at 14:53, beating Smith glove side to make it 4-0.

Backes scored his fourth goal 3:15 into the third period when he crashed the net and redirected a Steen pass beating Smith.
