Dorial Green-Beckham is leaving Oklahoma before ever playing a game to declare himself eligible for the NFL draft.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops confirmed that Springfield, Missouri native and former Mizzou Tiger, Dorial Green-Beckham is entering the NFL  draft, leaving the Sooners without ever playing a down for them.  DGB was kicked off the Tigers prior to the start of the 2014 season by head coach Gary Pinkel for off field issues, including the final straw…accusations that he pushed a woman down stairs.

In 14 games in 2013, Green-Beckham’s sophomore season, he had 59 catches for 883 yards and a team leading 12 touchdowns.  His catches and touchdowns were tops on the team and his 883 yards were ten behind Marcus Lucas for the team lead.

There is no doubt he has the speed and size for the NFL, but I’m not only concerned with his off field behavior, but he’s been away from the game for a year.  While he put up good numbers for Missouri, his ability to run sharp passing routes is a concern and I’m not convinced he can catch balls in traffic.  Green-Beckham was a star at small Sprinfield-Hillcrest, where his high school competition was nowhere near his ability.  I thought he came into Mizzou with sloppy mechanics.

I don’t believe he’s a receiver who comes into a team and takes over one of the top two spots on an NFL roster.  He may be given that shot, but he still has much to prove.  I wouldn’t spend a first or second round pick on him.  I think he’s too much of a risk to go that high.
