Martin Brodeur, the NHL’s all-time winningest goaltender, signed a one-year, $700,000 contract Tuesday with the St. Louis Blues.  With their number one goalie Brian Elliott out with a lower body injury, the Blues needed insurance behind new starter Jake Allen.  Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said Brodeur’s first start would come either Thursday at the Chicago Blackhawks or Saturday at the New York Islanders.

The 42 year old Brodeur is a career 688-394-105-71 in 21 seasons with the New Jersey Devils. His 124 career shutouts are also first in NHL history. He won the Stanley Cup three times, the Calder Trophy in 1993-94 and the Vezina Trophy four times.
