Georgia’s top running back Todd Gurley has been suspended indefinitely by the school for an investigation into alleged violations of NCAA rules.

The  investigation is looking into whether Gurley received money in exchange for his autograph or use of his likeness.

“I’m obviously very disappointed,” head coach Mark Richt said in a statement. “The important thing for our team is turn all our attention toward preparation for Missouri.”

Gurley leads the SEC with 773 rushing yards, averaging 8.2 yards per carry.  Freshman Nick Chubb will likely replace Gurley in the starting lineup.  He has 234 rushing yards, and a 7.2 yards per carry average.

The investigation appears to stem from about 500 items that Gurley autographed.  ESPN is reporting that sources told them Gurley was seeking anywhere from$8-$25 per signed item.  It’s not yet known whether or not Gurley received payment.
