The San Francisco 49ers (3-2) lined up for a punt on fourth-and-1 from their 29 early in the fourth quarter, but went with a snap to Craig Dahl who ran up the middle for a three-yard gain and a first down.  That set up a Phil Dawson 27-yard field goal with 8:42 to play for the go-ahead score.  Dawson kicked one more late for a 22-17 win over the Chiefs.

Alex Smith, facing his former team,  threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns, but Perrish Cox intercepted him late on a 2nd and 10 from the 20 as the Chiefs were trying to get started for a go-ahead touchdown.

Smith completed six of his 17 passes for 61 yards on the Chiefs’ opening drive, capped by a 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce. Jamaal Charles ran for 80 yards passing Larry Johnson (6,015 yards) for second place on Kansas City’s career rushing list.

Early in the second half, Charles had a 26 yard run that eventually led to a 17-yard pass to DeAnthony Thomas for his first NFL touchdown.  That put the Chiefs up 17-13, but from that point on, Charles ran the ball just three more times for five yards.
