Ole Miss goes for a kill during the first set in their win over Mizzou

Missouri volleyball went down to Oxford, MS. as the defending SEC Champion and boasting a 20-match SEC win streak, but Ole Miss swept the Tigers 3-0  Wednesday night, in a matched televised on the SEC Network. Ole Miss handed Missouri its first SEC loss since Nov. 23, 2012 and kept the Tigers winless in Oxford.

After losing the first set 25-18, the Tigers were up  22-16 in the second set, but a 9-1 run by the Rebels erased the lead and handed the home squad the win 25-23 for a 2-0 lead in the match.  Missouri came out after the break, and lead most of the way of the third set, but the Rebels tied it up at 20-20. The Tigers won the next point coming, but Ole Miss closed out the set 25-22 to take the match.

“I thought we let the match slip away late in the second set,” head coach Wayne Kreklow told MUTigers.com after the match. “When you are on the road, you can’t let leads like that slip away. Right now, we need to focus on not letting one mistake become three or four and that’s what happened in the second set. It’s a quick turnaround as we head to Georgia on Sunday so we need to be focused and ready to go the next couple days at practice.”

Mizzou will be back in action, again on the SEC Network, on Sunday at Georgia
