Adam Wainwright posted his 19th win, pitching a shutout in a Cardinals 2-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers keeping their 2.5 game lead over the Pirates who also won on Wednesday night.

Wainwright gave up seven hits and two walks while striking out seven.  After a stretch in August where Wainwright lost four of six starts, the Cardinals ace is getting hot down the stretch with his fourth win in a row.

Somehow the Cardinals squeezed out another win despite getting just three hits on the night. Brewers’ starter Mike Fiers held the Cardinals hitless until Wainwright singled up the middle with two outs in the sixth.  Fiers gave up one earned run and three hits in seven innings.

In the seventh, Matt Holliday walked with one out and got to third on Matt Adams’ single, but made it home when center fielder Carlos Gomez slipped and mishandled the hit for an error.  Jhonny Peralta then singled home Adams.
