The family of Melinda Griffin and their friends filled one witness chamber at the prison in Bonne Terre to capacity early Wednesday morning to watch the execution of 43-year-old Michael Shane Worthington. Many of them had worked on the investigation of Griffin’s rape and murder, or the prosecution of Worthington, who confessed to those crimes and was sentenced to death for them.

After the execution, Griffin’s mother and father-in-law, Carol and Jack Angelbeck, read statements. They noted that Worthington’s death was peaceful while Griffin had suffered during her attack in 1995. Carol Angelbeck says she is glad Worthington is dead and the family is glad to put him behind them.
