Chiefs safety Eric Berry and cornerback Marcus Cooper were back in full pads for Sunday’s practice that was held indoors on the campus of Missouri Western after rain fell heavily in the morning.  The defensive backfield has been hit with a rash of injuries, so it was nice to get a couple of players back.  New Chiefs safety Steve Gregory, who signed just last week, took some reps with the first-team defense. While it doesn’t mean much until games are played, there’s something to keep an eye on as the preseason games get closer.

On special teams, kicker Cairo Santos continues to impress coaches.  If he doesn’t knock off incumbent Ryan Succop, expect this guy to be wearing an NFL jersey somewhere else.  Santos went 2 for 3 from 52 yards on field goal attempts Saturday.  Succop went 1 for 3 from that same distance on Sunday.

The Chiefs added to their roster, signing defensive lineman Jairus Campbell,   a 6-foot-5, 296-pound rookie out of Bowling Green State University.  The team waived fullback James Baker as and defensive back David Van Dyke.  Baker was put on the Reserve/Did Not Report list on July 24, and Van Dyke was signed on May 12 as a rookie free agent.
