A World War II era bomber will return tomorrow to the region in which 69 years ago it was built, the Kansas City area.
The B-25 dubbed the “Axis Nightmare” will return to Kansas City for Jackson County’s Flag Day Salute to Veterans. It was one of more than 6,600 B-25s built at the North American Aviation plant in Kansas City, Kansas.
Participating in the celebration will be Ray Hawks and Emma Newland, two of the people who helped build those bombers. Mary Eisenhower, granddaughter of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, will also attend the ceremony and talk about the B-25’s role in defending the nation.
The Jackson County Flag Day Salute to Veterans begins at 9 a.m. Saturday with a veterans’ breakfast.
