In the Class 2 High School Baseball Championships at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O’Fallon, Mo., Valle Catholic caps off an amazing 31-3 record with a 13-2 victory over defending state champion Hartville. The Warriors scored in every inning except the fourth. Centerfielder Justin Roth had three RBIs. Andrew Basler finishes his season 8-0, he gave up just one earned run on five hits and three walks. Hartville finishes their season 19-5.

In the third place game Linn beat Archie 8-1. Ben Kleeba went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored and came on to pitch three scoreless innings to get the win.

In Class 3 semifinals, Christian High School beat Central New Madrid 4-3 to advance to today’s championship game. Central scored three runs without recording a hit.  Pitchers Brendan Guilliams and Jeanne Lucas combined for no hits, but nine walks. Christian also committed five errors.

Springfield Catholic jumped out to a 6-0 lead, thanks to a four-run, second inning, then held off a rally from Fatima who scored three in the seventh and had the tying runs on first and third, before a fly out ended the game, giving Springfield Catholic the 6-4 win. Springfield Catholic plays Christian today at 1 pm. Fatima and Central New Madrid for third place at 10:30.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the weather this morning, the rain should stop around 10, and then a 30% chance around noon with more showers coming in later in the afternoon. That could affect the semifinal games in Class 1. Northeast Cairo and New Franklin at 4:30 and Cooter and Dadeville at 6:30.
