Those who root for the Cardinals and Royals may not have a World Series title to call their own this year, but perhaps they’ll take some consolation in the fact that a team with three Missourians has won the World Series. Although for Royals fans, the hero of the White Sox 1-0 win over the Astros in Game 4 might remind them of what could have been.

Former Royals center fielder Jermaine Dye drove in Willie Harris in the eighth inning for the only tally of the game. In the series, Dye hit .438 with a homer, three RBI’s and three runs and was named the World Series MVP.

Pitcher Cliff Politte, who appeared in the last three games of the World Series, relieved White Sox starter Freddy Garcia in the eighth inning and worked around hitting Willy Taveras and intentionally walking Lance Berkman, to record two outs. Neal Cotts relieved Politte to get the final out of the inning.

Westphalia, Missouri native Joe Crede was 1-for-4 in Game 4. He hit .289 in 12 post season games, with four homers and 11 RBI’s.

Mark Buehrle, who hails from St. Charles, was 3-2 in the playoffs and had a save in Game 3.

This marked the first World Series title for the White Sox in 88 years.
