In somewhat of a surprise move, the former Missouri and California basketball player, Ricky Kreklow is passing up a few scholarship offers and has decided to walk-on at Creighton University. The 6’6 forward started his career at Missouri, then spent two injury plagued seasons at Cal. Kreklow decided to transfer after California coach Mike Montgomery announced that he was retiring. His move from Missouri came after Mike Anderson left for Arkansas after Kreklow’s freshman season.
In an interview that Kreklow gave to the Omaha World Herald, he said it wasn’t all about the money, but more about making the best basketball move.
“I wanted to make sure I made the right decision, scholarship or no scholarship,” Kreklow said. “I have one year of school left, so there is really no time for any adjustments. I’ve been fortunate to be on scholarship before. Talking with my parents, they wanted me to be sure that the money part of it alone would not influence my decision.”
Kreklow visited three schools, Creighton, Butler and Missouri and narrowed his choice to Creighton and Missouri. Creighton’s staff recruited him out of Rock Bridge High School, but he decided to stay home, saying the timing just wasn’t right for a move to Omaha.
