Peter Bourjos broke out of an 0-for-19 slump with two hits, an RBI and a run scored and Matt Carpenter had two hits and two RBIs as the Cardinals grabbed a 4-3 win on Monday night in Atlanta, handing the Braves their seventh loss in a row.

Mike Matheny’s hunch paid off by starting Bourjos. While it looks like Jon Jay will get the majority of starts in center and Randal Grichuk getting more looks, Bourjos has been the odd man out, but Matheny went with history. Bourjas was 4-for-10 lifetime against Braves starter Aaron Harang.

Matt Carpenter gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead when he doubled in Bourjas and Mark Ellis. He then came around to score on a hit from Matt Holliday to make it 3-0 in the fifth. The Cardinals made it 4-0 in the sixth with an RBI single from Bourjas. St. Louis pitching held up down the stretch.

Shelby Miller (4-2) got the win, but was shaky at times, giving up six hits and two runs in five-plus innings. Trevor Rosenthal closed the game, pitching out of trouble for his ninth save. He gave up a lead off single and had the tying run at second base before he got a flyout and strikeout to end the game.
