The Royals were looking to sweep the Toronto Bluejays for the first time since 1993. Put that on hold. Colby Rasmus, the former “can’t miss” star with the Cardinals, homered to help the Jays avoid the sweep with a 7-3 win over the Royals.

Billy Butler doubled to left in the bottom of the fifth inning which tied the game up at 3-3, but Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie gave up the solo shot to Rasmus in the sixth and the bullpen gave up three more insurance runs in the eighth snapping a three-game win streak.

Former Central Division foe Mark Buehrle improved to 5-1, keeping the Royals at bay in 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks. Aaron Loup pitched 2.1 shutout innings for his third career save.
