James Loney came up clutch, hitting an RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning to give the Tampa Bay Rays a 1-0 victory over the Royals on Tuesday night, in a game that featured great pitching from two young starters.

The Royals had Rays starter Chris Archer on the hook twice, but he got out of two bases-loaded jams and went seven innings. Royals rookie Yordano Ventura, making his first start, held the Rays to two hits in six innings.

Loney’s grounder to right scored former Royals prospect Wil Myers, who snapped an 0-for-15 slump when he reached on an infield single to start the ninth. Myers advanced on a two-out wild pitch by Greg Holland (0-1).
