A proposal has again been introduced in the state legislature to limit bicycle traffic on Missouri’s roads.

HB 2279 offered by Representative Bart Korman (R-High Hill) would prohibit the riding of bicycles on a state roadway that has a bicycle path or trial running generally along the same route within two miles of that roadway. The bill includes exemptions for a cyclist with a motorized escort, someone riding to and from a home or place or residence, a business, a school or a public facility, and for people riding bicycles due to an “economic hardship.”

The bill has not been assigned to a committee.

Korman introduced similar legislation last year but it did not receive a committee hearing.
