A National Weather Service assessment team has found evidence that suggests one tornado did touch down in the St. Louis area during storms Thursday morning.

The preliminary confirmation is that the damage near University City was the result of an EF-1 tornado with a damage path about half-a-mile long and 100 yards wide. The tornado touched down at about 5:20 Thursday morning.

No one was injured but the storm danaged at least 100 homes as well as some trees and power lines. A gas leak was also attributed to the storm.
