The Royals have their backs against the wall and it looks like a boulder is keeping them there. Kansas City is only five losses away from reaching the century mark for the third straight season and fourth in five years. Coincidentally, they’re only five wins away from avoiding that mark. The heart-wrenching part is that there are only nine games left for the Royals and their all against possible playoff teams.

Kansas City (58-95) held a 3-2 lead halfway through their game with the Tigers, but a late game rally helped Detroit pull out a 7-3 win Friday.

The win gave Detroit (92-62) a 1.5 game lead over the Twins, who happens to be the Royals next opponent before going to Detroit to finish the season. The Tigers are 12-1 against Kansas City this season.

Sean Casey only had one hit in the game but made sure it counted. Casey’s two-run homer in the sixth gave Detroit a 4-3 lead. Carlos Guillen had two hits and an RBI.

Wil Ledesma (3-3) got the win tossing 5.2 innings and allowing three runs – one earned – on four hits and striking out four.

No player had multiple hits for the Royals.

Luke Hudson (7-6) was saddled with the loss going six innings surrendering four runs on seven hits.
