One game after David Backes picked up a hat trick, T.J. Oshie netted his first career hat trick, scoring three times in the Blues 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild. The hat tricks in back-to-back games, happened for the Blues for the first time since December of 2000. With the win, the Blues maintain a one-point lead over Boston for the overall best record in the NHL. The Blues also increase their lead over the Chicago Blackhawks, who lost 3-0 to Boston.
The Blues top line of Oshie, Backes and Alex Steen has been on fire of late. Backes had two assists and Steen had an assist Thursday. Combined with their efforts against the Maple Leafs on Tuesday, the line has 15 points in two games.
The Blues (50-16-7) reached 50 wins for the first time since 1999-2000, when they won 51 games in their only Presidents’ Trophy-winning season. St. Louis is 8-0-2 in its past 10 home games, 11-2-1 overall in the past 14.
