The Saint Louis Billikens, the A-10 regular-season champions, who got bounced in the first round of the A-10 Tournament by St. Bonaventure on Friday, enter the NCAA Tournament with a difficult 5 vs. 12 matchup on Thursday from Orlando, FL., in the Midwest Regional.
The Billikens, 26-6, will face the winner of NC State (21-13) and Xavier (21-12).
Jordair Jett was named the Atlantic-10 player of the year, who led the Billikens in scoring in A-10 play with 17 ppg. For the season, he averaged 13.8 ppg and led the team with 4.7 assists per game. Jett is the first Billiken to be named a conference Player of the Year since 1981, when David Burns earned the Metro Conference’s top honor.
Head coach Jim Crews was named the A-10 coach of the year for the second straight year. The Billikens are one of a few schools in a country who start five seniors. The senior class, comprised of Jake Barnett, Dwayne Evans, Jett, Rob Loe and Mike McCall Jr. are the winningest class in school history with 92 victories.
Wichita State, the only undefeated team at 34-0 is a No. 1 seed in the Midwest Regional and will face the winner of Cal Poly/Texas Southern’s play-in game. The Shockers, who just won the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in St. Louis, would face the winner of 8-Kentucky vs. 9-Kansas State.
In the South Regional, Kansas earned the No. 2 seed and will play Eastern Kentucky on Friday in St. Louis. The Jayhawks would play the winner of 7-New Mexico vs. 10-Stanford.
