The Great Lakes Valley postseason basketball tournament heads to Evansville, IN after the first round of the tournaments started on campuses, Sunday. Last year, Drury University earned the men’s crown, which set the tone for the Panthers in the postseason as they went on to win the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship.

Women’s basketball:  Tournament Bracket

–Sophomore Kelly Kunkel came off the bench to record 13 points and nine rebounds, helping the No. 5 seed University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s basketball team to a 73-41 victory over No. 12 seed Rockhurst on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Tritons advance to the GLVC Tournament Quarterfinals where they will face No. 4 seed Indianapolis on Thursday at 12 p.m. The Tritons defeated the then No. 19 ranked Greyhounds, 85-64, on February 8 in St. Louis.

–The University of Southern Indiana women’s basketball team earned its first post-season win since 2004 as it defeated Missouri University of Science & Technology, 63-50. Missouri S&T finished the season 9-18.

–Amy Briggs’ exploded for 17 points in the final 10 minutes of Sunday’s first round game  to lead the Truman Women to a 70-58 victory over the William Jewell Cardinals. The Bulldogs advance to play defending conference champ, Lewis (Ill.) on Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. The Bulldogs shot a dismal 29% and were just one of 11 from beyond the arc in the first half but led by nine at 31-22 behind a 27-17 rebounding advantage, 11 on the offensive end and had just three turnovers.

Men’s basketball: Tournament Bracket

–The 2013-14 Truman men’s basketball season came to an abrupt halt on Sunday afternoon, as the 5th-seeded Bulldogs were upset by Illinois Springfield, 78-72. The Bulldogs close the 2013-14 season as just the sixth team in program history to have reached the 20-win mark and the first since 2005-06. In addition, the 13 conference wins this season set a new program record.

–The William Jewell College men’s basketball team wrapped up their 2013-2014 season with a Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament first round loss, 82-69 at the hands of Bellarmine University  in Louisville, K.y. The Knights led by 20 early in the second half only to see the Cardinals come all the back to tie the game 65-65 with 6:20 to play.  Jewell closes out the 2013-14 season with an overall record of 11-16 and a 7-11 record in GLVC play.

–The No. 8 seeded University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s basketball team shot 62.1 percent from the field en route to a 103-79 victory over No. 9 seed Missouri S&T on Sunday afternoon. With the win the Tritons improve to 16-11 overall and advance to the tournament quarterfinals. The Tritons took a 50-43 lead into halftime after an opening half that saw 10 lead changes. A string of eight unanswered by Missouri S&T gave the Miners their largest lead of the game at 24-19 with 11:04 to play before UMSL answered with 14 straight to post a 33-24 lead at the 7:22 mark.
