Woman charged after malnourished children left alone in separate closets

February 22, 2014 By Mike Lear

A St. Louis woman faces multiple charges after police found her 5-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son locked in closets in her apartment, malnourished and showing signs of ringworm.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports 27-year-old Monique Winston is charged with two counts of kidnapping, four counts of child abuse and two counts of child endangerment.

Police found the siblings Wednesday afternoon when responding to a report of children being left unattended. A neighbor said she saw Winston and her boyfriend leave the apartment more than 6 hours earlier.
