There are still 2,000 Ameren Missouri customers without power this afternoon following high winds that blew through the state. At the peak of outages, nearly 8,000 people were in the dark.

Ameren Missouri reports that the majority of outages are in the St. Louis area with a few dozen in Cape Girardeau. Rural cooperatives reported scattered outages in outstate Missouri, including several in Boone County that have been fixed.

Patrick Smith, Director, Ameren Missouri Berkley District, says crews will be working on replacing six utility poles in St. Louis County.

“Ameren Missouri crews continue to work quickly and safely as they restore electricity to the remaining customers who lost power during yesterday’s severe wind storm,” the utility company says in a press release. “Heavy winds swept through the region Thursday afternoon, tearing down power lines and trees, many of which landed on power lines. Crews plan to restore electricity to all remaining customers by the end of the day. At 7 p.m. tonight, Ameren Missouri will close its Emergency Operations Center, which has been coordinating the restoration effort.”

In the aftermath of the storm, Ameren Missouri says about 67,000 customers lost power throughout the state.

“At this hour, crews have restored service to more than 65,000 of those customers,” Ameren Missouri reports.

Workers from outstate have been assisting local crews in the hardest hit areas of the St. Louis Metro region, including: north St. Louis City and St. Louis County, St. Charles, and Wentzville. Approximately, 1,500 of our 1.2 million residential customers are still without power this afternoon.

“We understand some of our customers are frustrated that they are still out of power,” said Michael Moehn, senior vice president, Ameren Missouri Customer Operations. “Our crews have been working continuously to restore power, but in a few areas the damage was so severe it will take us more time to replace or repair the equipment. However, we will continue working through the evening until all power is restored.”

Any customers who remain without power as of 9 p.m. Friday are asked to call 1.800.552.7583 or go to AmerenMissouri.com/Outage to report their outage.
