Royals sign their closer to one year deal

February 12, 2014 By Bill Pollock

The Kansas City Royalsagreed to terms on a one-year contract with right-handed pitcher Greg Holland for the 2014 season, avoiding arbitration.  The 28 year old had arguably one of the best seasons for a Royals relief pitcher, going 2-1 with a club record 47 saves in 2013, while recording a 1.21 ERA. Holland was selected to the American League All-Star team and finished with 101 strikeouts in 67.0 innings last season – the second-most by a Royals reliever.

The signing of Holland leaves the Royals with no other unsigned arbitration eligible players for 2014.

Pitchers and catchers are due to report in Surprise, AZ this Friday with their first official workout set for Saturday.
