Military proxy bill goes to Governor

February 12, 2014 By [email protected]

A Missourian with the military in Afghanistan could become a candidate this year for the legislature or for Congress without coming home to file. The legislture has sent the governor a proposal to have surrogates file on their behalf.

Senator Wayne Wallingford of Cape Girardeau, one of the sponsors, says, ” This allows them to get a proxy to either draw a position for the ballot to stand in line for them…It’s the fair thing to do because these people put their lives on the line serving their country and they want to now serve their state.”

The bill also applies to disabled Missourians. It goes into effect as soon as Governor Nixon signs it.  Filing begins February 25 and ends March 25.  The primary election is August 5.  The General election is November 4.
