Scott Wright of DraftCountdown.com says there may be some negatives to Michael Sam’s announcement on being gay, but Wright says Sam will still fall in that third to fifth round range that many have him projected. What is going to determine where he gets drafted will have more to do with how Sam performs at the NFL Combine, then anything he said this past Sunday.
Sam doesn’t have the size needed for a defensive end position, but he didn’t look great at outside linebacker, playing in reverse at the Senior Bowl. He needs to show NFL teams that he has the speed and athleticism for the linebacker position. Wright says all Sam needs to do is show improvement in the linebacker aspects of the game.
“The scouting combine was really going to be big, even before the latest developments,” says Wright.
