The U.S. Postal Service says letter carriers will continue to make their appointed rounds to deliver mail in the aftermath of the snow and ice, but asks residents to help out by clearing snow and ice from the approach to their mailbox.
“Snow and ice in front of mail boxes play havoc with mail delivery,” says Valerie Welsch, Postal Service spokesperson for the Postal Service’s Gateway District. “More snow and ice is expected today so your assistance in maintaining a clear path to the mail box – including steps, porches, walkways and street approach – will help us maintain consistent delivery service.”
Welsch says delivery service could be delayed if streets or walkways present hazardous condition for letter carriers or when snow is plowed against mailboxes. She notes that the U. S. Postal Service curtails delivery only as a last resort.
