Missouri State standout Jarmar Gulley was named the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.  Gulley had a career week for the Bears as he averaged 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in a pair of games.

He registered a career-high 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting to help the Bears to a 68-65 road win at Bradley and followed that effort with 15 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in MSU’s narrow 72-69 overtime loss to No. 6 Wichita State on Saturday as MSU’s first double-double of the season. He accounted for 10 points against the Shockers during a key five-minute stretch in the second half that helped push MSU ahead by 19 points at the time.

This is MSU’s first Valley Player of the Week selection since Jan. 2, 2012 when Kyle Weems won the award for the sixth and final time in his career. Gulley was a two-time MVC Newcomer of the Week pick after transferring to Missouri State from Highland (Kan.) Community College in 2011-12 as he earned the award on Dec. 12, 2011 and Feb. 27, 2012.

Gulley and the Bears (12-4, 2-2 MVC) will be on the road for a two-game league road swing this week with a Wednesday game at Indiana State (6 p.m.) and Saturday afternoon (12:00 p.m.) trip to Northern Iowa before returning home to face Evansville on Jan. 21.
