Clay calls for credit breach investigation (AUDIO)

January 14, 2014 By [email protected]

One of Missouri’s senior congressmen worried about the security of his Target credit card wants an extensive investigation of the breaches of consumer information held by retail businesses.

Congressman William Lacy Clay of St. Louis and sixteen fellow Representatives have asked the House Financial Services Committee to investigate breaches at Target and at Neiman-Marcus that he says  have put information about 110-million consumers at risk. The letter Clay and the others have signed to committee chairman Jeb Hensarling says, “It is incumbent upon our committee to explore whether industry data protection standards are appropriate, and examine whether heightened regulatory standards are needed to more effectively protect consumers.”

Clay is the ranking minority member of the subcommittee on Domestic and International Monetary Policy. He and northwest Missouri’s Congressman Sam Graves are in their seventh terms.
