Missouri Department of Transportation crews continue to battle the state’s most recent snow storm, which brought anywhere from six to 12 inches of snow to many parts of the state, but says while some progress has been made clearing both major and minor roads, drifting snow and extremely cold temperatures have made clearing roadways slow-going.
“Motorists should still be prepared for partly covered roads as they head home this evening, as well as for their morning commute tomorrow,” said MoDOT Central District Maintenance Engineer Randy Aulbur. “We ask motorists to slow down, allow extra time for their commutes and drive according to the conditions.”
MoDOT crews will continue to work around the clock to restore state routes to near-normal conditions. In the meantime, drivers are encouraged to get the latest road conditions before heading out by checking MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org, which offers real-time views of road conditions for Missouri’s interstates and major highways.
For smartphone and tablet users, MoDOT’s Traveler Information App brings the same information to mobile devices. Users can select road condition and work zone options from the map’s legend, and view the same cameras and message boards found on desktop version of the map. The app is available for free at the iPhone App Store and Android Marketplace.
Travelers can also pick up the phone and call MoDOT’s toll-free customer service center at 888-ASK-MODOT (888-275-6636). Customer service representatives are available to give road conditions updates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
