State Auditor gives Department of Social Services Youth Services good marks

December 23, 2013 By Jessica Machetta

State Auditor Tom Schweich today released the audit of the Missouri Department of Social Services, Division of Youth Services.

In the areas audited, the overall performance of this entity was Good.

As of July 2013, school districts owed the Division of Youth Services more than $3.2 million in educational service billings, with some unpaid billings dating back to the 2000-2001 school year.  The division lacks statutory authority to assess interest or penalties on delinquent amounts, has not written off unpaid balances, and has not refunded credit balances totaling $18,900 to 18 school districts.  The division is not working with the Division of Legal Services concerning the handling of old unpaid bills and credit balances.
