Public Safety officials think bomb threat at 3 schools was diversion for bank robbery

December 13, 2013 By Mike Lear

The Division of Public Safety in the Southeast Missouri town of Charleston is investigating whether a bomb threat called in to three local schools was a diversion for a bank robbery. The threats were called in late Thursday morning and while officers responded to that, a report came in of the bank robbery.

Two men had entered the Citizens Bank, displayed handguns and demanded cash. They fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. While that was happening the three schools had to be evacuated and searched. No explosives were found.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
