3rd quarter recap

–Auburn had the ball to start the third quarter, but a penalty, incomplete pass, Tre Mason falling at midfield and E.J. Gaines making a big tackle forced Auburn to punt. The ball was downed at the MU seven.

–Mizzou had two false start penalties and got the benefit of a pass interference call to give them a first down, but Mizzou tried passing the football, getting away from the run and were forced to punt, giving Auburn the ball at midfield with 10:22 to go.

–Despite the short field, only one first down by Auburn led to a 53 yard field goal by Cody Parkey. It was a career high and SEC Championship game high.

Auburn 31, Mizzou 27 with 8:17 to play.

–Mizzou grabbed the lead on a seven-play, 79 yard drive. DGB sliced the Auburn defense on a screen pass for 42 yards. Bud Sasser made a nice catch to get the Tigers inside the 20 and Franklin found Marcus Murphy wide open for a 10 yard pass.

Mizzou 34, Auburn 31 with 5:35 to play.

–Auburn hasn’t spent much time trailing in this game. Despite Mizzou having the lead at four separate times, the Tigers have only led for seven minutes of the game. Auburn went 75 yards in six plays to go back on top 38-34.

–After forcing Mizzou to punt, Auburn had another short field to work with and Auburn went 54 yards in five plays in under two minutes to go up 45-34…Mizzou’s first double-digit deficit.

–Mizzou answered in two plays. Henry Josey went 54 yards and a personal foul tacked on more yards giving Mizzou the ball at the five. Franklin kept it on the keeper, then ran it again for a two point conversion in a drive that took 22 seconds. Auburn 45, Mizzou 42.
