The National Weather Service is now calling for a little more snow than previously expected. The National Weather Service in Springfield says 4 to 8 inches is expected to fall south of the Interstate 44 corridor, with 1 to 4 inches north of there.

Also, times of impact are now being more clearly defined, with sleet and snow hitting southwest Missouri around noon, moving into the Rolla, Lebanon area by 2 p.m., and blowing through the rest of the state (up to Interstate 70 and to the south) by 5 p.m. The initial round of precipitation is expected to taper off to the west around 6 or 7 p.m., with a second wave beginning tonight. That second wave, says Meteorologist Doug Kramer, will persist through tonight and into tomorrow, finally coming to an end around mid-day Friday. Ice is expected to be less of a threat than previously forecasted. Meteorologists say that’s because colder temperatures moved in earlier than first expected. Little Rock and Jonesboro, Ark., and Memphis, Tenn., are now expected to get the brunt of the freezing rain and ice, which could spill over into extreme southern Missouri around the West Plains area.
