Carlos Beltran was in Kansas City speaking with the Royals who are looking to woo him back to where he started. The Royals have reportedly offered Beltran as much as $48 million over three years. Beltran made $13 million per year in his two seasons with the Cardinals. Beltran will turn 37 during the first month of the season. In his two seasons with the Cardinals, Beltran hit .282 with 56 homers and 181 RBI in 296 games in St. Louis.
The New York Post first reported that Beltran was visiting Kansas City. Beltran is meeting with teams that have expressed interest in signing him. The Royals drafted Beltran in 1995, but dealt him to Houston in a cost-cutting move. Now the Royals, on the cusp of putting together a winner, are spending. On November 22, they announced a four-year, $32 million deal for left handed pitcher Jason Vargas.
Beltran, who has dealt with on and off knee issues, could be used in some situations to DH. However, that would force Billy Butler to play the infield.
