Blues start slow and lose at L.A.

December 3, 2013 By Bill Pollock

Tyler Toffoli scored two goals and Ben Scrivens made 25 saves to lead the Kings to a 3-2 victory against the St. Louis Blues on Monday night in Los Angeles.

The Blues managed to break the shutout on a goal from Kevin Shattenkirk with 5:54 to play. Shatternkirk assisted on Victor Tarasenko’s tip-in with 16 seconds remaining. They can’t figure out the Kings. The Blues lost for the 15th time in the last eighteen games and have dropped nine in a row at Staples Center, including the playoffs.

The Blues outshot the Kings 11-4 in the final period, but another slow start hurt the Blues who lost back to back games for the first time.

“Both games, right from the start, we got outcompeted,” said defenseman Jay Bouwmeester. We’re a team that prides ourselves on our work and being able to grind teams out, and we kind of got a taste of our own medicine, I guess, the last couple of games, and we didn’t respond well.”
