Saint Louis senior forward Dwayne Evans scored a season-high 21 points to lead the Billikens past Old Dominion 62-52 Wednesday night in the third-place game of the Cancun Challenge at the Hard Rock Resort.

Evans’ 21 points came on 8-of-13 shooting from the field. Senior forward Rob Loe drained three 3-pointers en route to 10 points.

The Billikens (6-1) now head back to St. Louis, where they will get ready for Sunday’s showdown against Wichita State (7-0). Tipoff at Chaifetz Arena is scheduled for noon.

Loe put the Billikens ahead by eight early on with a pair of 3-pointers, but ODU hung around and took the lead 16-14 with 8:26 to go in the opening half. The score was close the rest of first half, with the Billikens carrying a two-point lead, 29-27, into halftime.

Reggie Agbeko, who earned his first-career start, converted a 3-point play to cap a 6-0 run early in the second half. It was that rally that gave the Billikens a lead they would not relinquish. Austin McBroom nailed a trey with 12:35 left to put the Bills ahead by double figures, 47-63.

Old Dominion briefly cut its deficit to seven on a 3-ball by Ambrose Mosley, but a tip-in by Mike McCall Jr. and the first 3-pointer of the season by Jordair Jett gave the Billikens a double-digit cushion as they cruised to the 10-point win.
