Chesterfield, Missouri native Max Scherzer who pitches for the Detroit Tigers was named the American League’s Cy Young winner. Scherzer went 21-3, the only 20 game winner in baseball, with 240 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.90.

Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright was runner up to Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers in the National League. It is the third time Wainwright has finished in the top three, second time runner-up. He has yet to win the Cy Young.

Wainwright led all NL pitchers in starts (34), innings pitched (241 2/3), wins (19), complete games (five) and shutouts (two). For the third time in his career, Wainwright posted an ERA below 3.00. Kershaw, however posted a league-low 1.83 ERA. He also had 16 wins.

According to the New York Daily News, the Yankees have inquired about third baseman David Freese. If Alex Rodriquez comes back at all, he’ll likely be a DH.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have hired Dave Duncan as a pitching consultant. The 68 year old took time off in 2011 and missed all of 2012 to care for his wife, who died earlier this year after a battle with brain cancer.
