Mizzou vs Kentucky 1st Quarter Summary

November 9, 2013 By Missourinet Sports

-Missouri wins the coin toss and they elect to receive the opening kickoff and start the day with the ball at their own 29 yard line.  The Tigers pick up one first down on a 16 yard pass from Maty Mauk to Henry Josey but the Tigers are forced to punt and Kentucky starts their first possession at their own 20 yard line.

-The Wildcats are able to move the ball quickly down the field but the drive stalls at the Missouri 4 yard line and Kentucky settles for a 21 yard field goal by Joe Mansour to take a 3-0 lead with 9:57 left in the quarter.

-On the Kentucky kickoff Marcus Murphy fumbles after crossing the 40 yard line.  The Wildcats recover at the Missouri 44 yard line and start their second possession from there.  UK can’t get anything going on the drive and they are forced to punt.  The key defensive play comes when Markus Golden records a sack to make it 3rd and 16.   After a Kentucky punt the Tigers start at their own 13 yard line.

-After a Maty Mauk to Dorial Green-Beckham 35 yard completion the drive goes nowhere and the Tigers punt.  Kentucky starts at their own 17 yard line.

-The Missouri defense behind Bonner and Singleton force and punt and Landon Foster shanks a 13 yard punt out of bounds and Mizzou takes over at the Kentucky 39 yard line with 2:11 left in the quarter.

-Missouri uses two Marcus Murphy runs and an 8 yard touchdown pass from Maty Mauk to Dorial Green-Beckham to take a 7-3 lead with 1:20 left in the quarter.

-Behind a sack from Kony Ealy the Tigers defense forces a three and out for Kentucky.  The Wildcats will be in punt formation to start the second quarter.

End 1st Quarter: Mizzou 7 Kentucky 3
