The State Auditor is following-up reports by the Education Department that a charter school in Kansas City got tax money for nonexistent students.

Six administrators and other staff at Hope Academy Charter School in Kansas City are on paid leave.

Auditor Tom Schweich has sent a team to review attendance records and other reports at the school at the request of its board of directors and the Education Department.

The Department says it’s too early to know how much more money the school got than it should have.
